Jamiestarted his racing career at the tender age of 8 years old
finding some success in GoKarting,

By 1999 he found himself in the world of NASCAR competing at 4 races in the Craftsman Truck Series,2000 he made 15 starts earning himself 1 top 5 finish and 4 top 10s,

2001/02 he Jamie arrived in the Nationwide (Busch) series driving for Brewco Motorsports,

In the later part of the season Chip Ganassi announced Jamie would be driving his Texaco Havoline Dodge in the 2003 Sprint Cup series, This was to be brought forward when Strerlin Marlin fractured a vertebrae at Kansas, Jamie made an early Cup debut at Talledega 2002,a week later Jamie would shock the series by taking his first win at the UAW/GM Quality 500 at Lowes Motor Speedway

2003 he competed a full season and won Rookie of the year title
2005 Jamie left Ganassi Racing to join Roush Fenway Racing where he is in his last contracted year,as the 5th in the team,new rules dictate that a 4 car team maximum at the start of the 2010 season

Jamie McMurray has had a decent career in NASCAR but has never recaptured his exciting enterance,He seems to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time on the racetrack,and has made some silly mistakes also,but through out he always seems upbeat and has that famous smile and cheerie outlook
