After Dale died, I was ready to hate the guy who stepped into his car. I was sure he'd be some "putz". Yes, that was being unfair and immature, but true as to how I felt none the less. I can't describe how pleased I was when I saw how this "imposter" conducted himself. He was very unassuming, very appreciative of getting the job, and very respectful and mindful of the shoes he was filling. Almost as importantly, he was a red blooded RACER who could drive! Nothing less was deserving for Dale's ride!

Kevin Harvick did honor to Dale's team, and for that I was very grateful, and always will be.

That alone is enough for me to be a fan, but he's so much more! Saving the #3 team, and most likely Richard Childress Racing, with his dramatic first win in only his 3rd start at Atlanta in 2001 is another. But I've grown to respect and admire him even more in the years since for the love and devotion he's shown for the sport, best demonstrated by what he and his wife Delana are doing with Kevin Harvick Inc. Already a Championship team in the Truck Series, they are now slowly moving into the Nationwide series. Some day we'll see their team in Cup I'm sure!

Some say that he hasn't performed as well as he should. First off, his performance has been pretty good, but even Richard Childress has said several times that he got behind with his teams after Dale's death, and that his drivers have been performing excellent taking that into consideration. RCR has had a renewed effort to get back to the top of the sport over the last couple years, and I expect Kevin to win his first Championship soon.

Watch the video below of Harvick's first, nail biting, emotional win for RCR and Dale's #3 team in only his 3rd race as a rookie in the Cup series!
