Martin made his Busch (nationwide) series debut in
2002, subbing for Jimmy Spencer, it is then he caught the eye of his future employer.
In 2003,Martin first ran the white number 81 car for the Chance 2 team,
co owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his stepmother Teresa.
In 2004, Martin to his first Busch (nationwide) championship, and followed in 2005 by winning back to back championships.
Then came 2006 Martins rookie season for the Sprint cup series, where he managed 5 top 10s with
a best finish of 2nd at Homestead, driving for DEI, the team started by the late Dale Earnhardt Sr.
2007, Martin took his first cup win, but the rest of the season was plagued with engine
failures.
2008, again a poor season for the team, with unreliability, and in house politics, hindering the
season, Martin finished 15th in the points, no poles, no wins, and also seeing his crew chief, suspended from races for 6 weeks, for roof template
infringements.
As we now reach the start of 2009,Martin has resigned for DEI, and now finds himself in the middle of a merger between DEI and
Ganassi racing, to be known as Earnhardt Ganassi racing, with Felix Sebates Dale Jr. once said of Martin Truex
Jr.: "Martin is a quiet spoken guy, who has a good mind, he's got obvious
talent and has proved he can do the job.
The only thing in Martins future now seems to be uncertainty,
will the merger work? will the new team survive? has he done the right thing staying loyal to the
team, or would a move have be better for him, in hindsight .
