Matt Kenseth was born on March 10, 1972 in Cambridge,
WI.
Matt began his racing career in 1988 at the age of 16 at Madison
International Speedway.
In 1996 he started the Hooter's series finishing 3rd in points his
rookie year. Also in 1996 he made his debut in the Busch Series
(now Nationwide) at Lowe's Motor Speedway finishing 22nd in a car he
rented from Bobby Dotter.
1997 Matt raced in 2 ASA races he then received a phone call from Robbie
Reiser to fill in for his injured driver at the time. He finished
11th.
1998 Matt started full time in the Busch Series and he also debuted in
the Winston Cup Series (now Sprint), he filled in for Bill Elliott and
he finished 6th. The 3rd best debut of any driver.
2000 Matt started the Winston Cup Series full time, he won Rookie of the
Year. Matt also won the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte and is still
the only rookie to win the 600 mile event. Finished 14th in the
points.
2001 Matt finished 13th in points and the Killer Bees won the Pit Crew
Competition.
2002 Matt won the most races (5) but finished 8th in points and the
Killer Bees won the Pit Crew Competition 2nd year in a row.
2003 Matt dominated the points for almost the entire season winning 1
race and winning the Championship, he finished in the top 10, 25 times.
After Matt dominated the points system due to his consistency Nascar
invented the Chase format.
2004 Matt won the IROC Series Championship, won 2 races in the Cup
Series and finished 8th in points.
2005 Matt won 1 race, finished 7th in points.
2006 Matt won 4 times, finished 8th in points.
2007 Matt won 2 times, finished 4th in points.
2008 Matt didn't have a very good year...no races won, finished 11th in
points.
Matt Kenseth and Jimmie Johnson are the only two drivers to be in the
Chase since it started in 2004.
Matt is married to Katie, they were married on December 16, 2000.
They have no children together but Matt does have a son Ross. Matt
and Katie have 4 cats...Lars, Charlotte, Miley and Sulley. They
all reside in North
Carolina. Matt has a quiet personality and has a
concervative style in racing. But will retailate when pushed.
Matt's favorite football team is the Green Bay Packers. His music
tastes are towards Metal, I believe his favorites are Metallica and
Godsmack. I think he does a little snow skiing.
