The Biff’s Bailout Plan – Think American!

December 30th, 2008

grebiffleusacar1I have been wanting to write something along this theme, but who better to tell it than The Biff?

In the December 22, 2008 Sporting News Magazine, issue No. 50, Biffle get’s to the heart of the matter: the misconception that imports are better in quality, economy and price.

“The thing we have to do is get people away from the mentality that fuel-efficient, reliable is Honda and Toyota. We have to get those people to think Ford, Chevy, Dodge.”

December 28, Notes

December 28th, 2008

Dec. 28: You guys have given the new software and theme a good test run: the last page had over 4,000 comments! There will be minor tweaking, but I think we have a format that will work from here on. So invite all your NASCAR friends over, we’re ready for Daytona!!

Smoke78664 added a couple new pics to his profile, check them out!

Yooper’s profile on Kurt Busch is up.. Looks good! Is he really only 150 lbs??

Going over the budget, I was thinking that it’d be prudent to find a sponsor or two for the site – I want to make sure I won’t have to go to congress for a bailout in the future. ;) So, if any of you guys know of a good online NASCAR related retail site you guys like, let me know! I don’t know any, I buy all my stuff off eBay or at Wal-Mart! lol

New Members: I put up instructions on the top of the right sidebar for signing up to the site. Please encourage anyone you think would be good to just come on over and join. I see some every now and then, but always forget to send them an invite. Any true NASCAR fan is welcome, just no trolls or drama queens! Willie has been trying to find his way here. I sent him a pasword, so if anybody runs into him, let him know to check his email – inlcuding spam folder! Several have mentioned TireBiter – he’s a good guy …. he plays the Fantasy League game too, so give him a shout-out if you see him!

Categories: I am thinking of having at least three catgories for blog pages. A main one for “General Discussion”, and then a couple more for more specific purposes.. like “Tech Talk” (just to throw something out)… for dicussions that have a specific theme….  anyone who has suggestions in that area, please let me know!

Anyway, it was a fun Christmas with you guys! It was so nice having such pleasant conversations without having to deal with all the #$@@! Too bad Shirley couldn’t spend more time here. She was busy retailing, but will be back more after the 29th!  Spdfrk was busy at her shop, but I hear she’ll be back soon too!

I hope all of you had a great Christmas and have a great New Year! I can’t thank you all enough for making this site fun to do!

Merry Christmas To You All!

December 24th, 2008

Thank you are for making this such a fun site! Without all of you, it’d just be lonely pages on the internet! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Don’t forget the Reason For The Season! And remember, he’s a sponsor too!

New Theme For Blog Site

December 23rd, 2008

The Champ demonstrating how NOT to go 3 Wide!I have a new theme for the blog site. Not sure it’s going to be permanant… I certainly will be making modifications to it, and I might replace it, but Lone Star thought it was good enough to leave up for the day and get input from all of you folk.. so let me know what you think. Major Blog Upgrade Complete!

December 22nd, 2008

The major software upgrade to the blog pages is complete, and apparently successful! I read a lot of horror stories about the upgrade process, so I was a little paranoid….. in particular about losing all the membership files… but we’re good to go! Supposedly, this upgrade will make any further improvements and future upgrades more seamless and worry free. We’ll see! Please let me know if you experience any difficutlies.

Houston: We Have PAGINATION!!

December 21st, 2008

OK, it only took me a few hours of reading to find the code to paginate the comments! What is pagination of comments? I don’t know! Why the H** do you think it took me so long to do this? hehe

No, seriousely, pagination of the comments means we will no longer have to wait for hundreds of comments to load everytime we refresh a page. After every 50 comments, it’ll create a new page for the comments for each blog story! The only confusing part for some will be that it starts off with the oldest post, so you need to go to the highest number page to see a post you just made – clicking “Show All” will make it like it was before – you most likely won’t want to do that. I was worried that after you made another comment, it’d then go back to the oldest post, and you’d have to start the process again – NOPE! You stay on the last page, and it even moves you forward if it creates a new page!

Anyway, after all that darn reading, it was easy to update the code, and everything worked the way I envisioned! Dang! I better go buy a lottery ticket – it NEVER works this way for me!

So, all systems are hopefully GO!! I hope I don’t go to bed all happy only to come here tomorrow and find out everything went to carp! I try not to login in the mornings, but maybe I’ll make an exception tomorrow to make sure everything’s going OK.

Happy chatting! Don’t break anything dangit!

Saturday Evening Post

December 20th, 2008

Love this global warming! Woo Hoo!

We now have three moderaters: Shirley, Spdfrk and Nutter! Nutter will be handling the night shift since she’s 8 hours ahead of me. They’ll be able to create new pages if need be, and be able to delete inappropriate comments. Thanks to all three of you, it’s a great help!

I’m liking the new Photo page more and more… I think I’m going to stick with it! The new theme is much easier to navigate, it’s much faster running right off my server than the Yahoo Group one is, and it doesn’t mess up your pictures as much as the Yahoo Group does either.

Anyway, I’m still pondering the updates to the site. I want to stick with whatever I go with so we don’t make a bunch of work for you (and for me) having to change things later on. Right now I’m trying to see if I can incorporate all the features of the Yahoo group into the 3WideAlley site, so we just have one place to go to… having two different groups confuses new people.

My goal is to make it a fast, easy to use site…. I just need to figure out a format that will handle expansion and do what I want…. not an easy task! lol

The Beginnings of NASCAR Part 2

December 17th, 2008

One Man’s Vision By Lone Star

Part 2… In late 1938 Bill France was finally able to convince a local restaurateur Charlie Reese to put up a purse of $1,000.00. Bill went around recruiting drivers and spreading the word. Danny Murphy beat France in the 150 mile race. It generated just enough profit so the co-promoters were able to promote another race. They managed to promote another successful race on Labor Day of 1938. Bill won that race by beating Lloyd Moody and Pig Riggins. Another three races were promoted and scheduled for March, July and September 1939. Again two races were scheduled for March and one each on July 4 and in August of 1941 before the start of World War II. The start of the war brought an end to stock car racing. Bill went to work for the Daytona Boat Works while his wife continued to operate the filling station.
